Client: Marlborough Tavern

Location: Bath

Joe and Justin took over a rather down at heel local boozer and have transformed it into a vibrant, modern pub with a reputation for fine food. My brief was to create an atmospheric and inviting pub garden that maximised the opportunity for seating and table space.

I have created distinct areas divided by deep, narrow, bespoke planters with trellis screens that are covered with a range of species Clematis and under planted with Lavender. This allows for a feeling of intimacy and seclusion whilst breaking up the rigid rectangular shape of the space. Scented Roses and jasmine provide scent and colour, climbing over the garden walls. A bed of mixed Thyme and various groupings of planters complete the scheme.

“The best pub garden in Bath?“

Bath Life Magazine

"Steve really took time to understand what inspired us and what we were trying to create and considered this in the context of the practical issues that a pub garden has to consider."

Joe Cussens, Owner, Marlborough Tavern

"At the end of the process we felt very much part of one team and he’d firmly become a friend to boot."
